Born in Colombia, South America, to a Chinese mother and Colombian father, Maria was raised in a multicultural household, which led her to become fluent in Spanish, Chinese, and English.
She grew up in Vancouver, Canada, where her passion for storytelling began at a young age.
At the age of 17, she was chosen as a student reporter and scholarship recipient by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). She then attended Simon Fraser University, where she graduated with a B.A in Communications.
Maria has worked in television in Vancouver (Canada) and Hunan (China) for Vancouver Television Channel and the Hunan TV International Channel.
She holds a master’s degree in business journalism from Tsinghua University and has experience in broadcasting, media, public relations, and communications for private sector and NGO’s.
Transitioning from a rewarding career in TV, she has shifted to becoming a multimedia communicator and has worked with United Nations agencies (UNOPS in Denmark and UNICEF South Asia).
Moving forward, Maria aims to continue to align her skills, passion and adaptability with work that resonates with her values and contributes to a better world.
