Colombian-Chinese Storyteller: Maria 王思思


Born in Colombia, South America, to a Chinese mother and Colombian father, Maria was raised in a multicultural household which led her to become fluent in Spanish, Chinese, and English.

Maria grew up in Vancouver, Canada, where her passion for storytelling began at a young age.  At the age of 17, she was chosen as a student guest reporter and scholarship recipient by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). She then went to attend Simon Fraser University, where she graduated with a B.A in Communications.

Maria has worked in television in Vancouver and China. She is actively involved in Vancouver’s community as a bilingual emcee for cultural, government, corporate, and charity events.

Covering a variety of events, she has learned to adapt and tailor her media prowess for different audiences.

Pursuing the pageantry path, Maria went on to win two consecutive pageant titles in 2015 and 2016. Her titles include Miss Chinese Cosmos Pageant North America 2015 Winner and Miss Chinese Vancouver 2016 Champion. 

She has experience as a Public Relations specialist, was a TV host for “The World’s Eyes on Hunan,” a cultural program on Hunan TV International Channel, and has appeared on CCTV Channel 4 “Happy Chinese” Program.

Maria is based in Vancouver and Beijing.

She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Global Business Journalism at Tsinghua University with a full scholarship.
